Once a month the young people visit a rest home for a sing-along with the senior citizens. Most of the seniors love to sing the songs they were raised with. It is rewarding to see how much seniors appreciate young people ministering to them. |
Our Youth Group, consisting of junior high through college age, meets together every other Sunday evening for Bible study and fellowship after the worship service. The meetings are begun with singing of several Psalters, prayer, and a brief introduction, after which we divide into three groups according to age. Presently we are studying the book of Proverbs topically. Questions are prepared to guide the discussion groups. Attendance varies from 40 to 60 young people. There is a small committee that organizes activities for the young people. Some of the activities include a family dinner, biking, canoeing, hayrides, ice skating, gym nights, and getting together at a member’s home for recreation, singing, and group discussion. |
Toward the end of August, our annual youth conference is held for young people between the ages of 15 and 25. This will be the 9th year. The conference is held at Pretty Lake Camp near Kalamazoo, from Tuesday afternoon until Friday evening. Approximately 140 young people attend. Some have come from as far away as Europe. Every day following breakfast and supper we have a topic led by one of our ministers or seminary students. During the course of the day, optional workshops are held with a time for group discussion. Free time is given for the young people to become acquainted with each other, and they participate in a variety of outdoor activities. The day is ended with singing around the campfire followed by devotions in the cabins.
We pray that the Holy Spirit will use these events to lead many young people to a spiritual life in Christ that may be witnesses in their daily walk and talk.
